Contrast and detail…

Here it is a basic chart I made some weeks ago from my home’s window. I just thought of posting this test in  case someone might find it useful. It pictures the typical problem when shooting a manual camera and you have to choose both diaphragm and shutter speed.

This chart shows how with the diaphragm wide open we have more contrast but less detail. When shooting fully closed, we have more detail but less contrast.

I use to shoot wide open most of the time, but when you need to shoot some scapes, you should shoot with the diaphragm at f8 or f11 to get a balance between constrast and detail.
